World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King Expansion Pack
The release of the second World of Warcraft expansion pack, Wrath of the Lich King introduces a bevy of new features similar to those implemented by the Burning Crusade. These features all serve to enhance top level content in the game for existing players by introducing yet another new continent, new character customization, a new class and a new profession.
For those individuals at least level 68, the new continent of Northrend opens up and allows purchasers of the expansion pack to begin exploring. Players have the ability to choose between two starting locations in Northrend – The Borean Tundra or the Howling Fjord. Both locations are on opposite ends of the new continent to keep the game from the kind of overload it experience when Outland was introduced and too many users tried to login at the same time.
Along with plenty of new quests – over 100 – the expansion pack offers a new level cap of 80 and the subsequent growth of instances and raids for players at level 70 or higher. The continent itself is not completely covered in snow and ice either. While not as diverse as Outland, Northrend offers 10 zones with varying climates, geography and mobs to encounter.
The main combatants in this region are the 15 foot tall Vrykul, a Viking inspired race of humanoid enemies that serve the Lich King. There is however a friendly race in Northrend as well, that of the Tuskarr, a animal like, walrus tusked race that offers more chances to grow reputation.
The final addition to the landscape in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion pack is the addition of a new outdoor PVP zone. This zone however includes the new ability to use siege weapons. These weapons, including wagons, tanks and other mechanical goodies, are designed to destroy buildings in the area in wide open non-instanced battleground style combat. This zone is completely avoidable by characters not interested in becoming involved and the siege weapons do not leave the designated PVP area.
The new continent is generally a chance for players that have completed the content present in the original game and Burning Crusade to set sail and conquer another incredibly powerful enemy. The story aspects of the expansion pack involve the Lich King himself and the final confrontation between the Horde and Alliance and the Lich King. Including the addition of the first new class in the game since it was released in 2004 – the Death Knight – there are plenty of new opportunities to stake out new territory, level up new abilities and enjoy new content.
