TenTonHammers guide to: Razorfen Kraul

Location

Razorfen Kraul is located in the Barrens far to the south. It is in very near the border to Thousand Needles and along the western edge. It is a mid-size instance for both Alliance and Horde players, although it is located in Horde territory. Alliance must access Razorfen Kraul via Theramore, Ratchet, Tanaris or Feralas, all of which are far runs.

Time

Razorfen Kraul is a mid-level instance and fairly small, it takes approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours, depending on party level and skill. With all upper level characters it can be finished in less than 40 minutes.

Levels

Razorfen Kraul is meant for characters level 26 - 34. You can continue to make loot and experience runs to about level 36, but after that the experience gains are not worth the effort.

The MOBs in Razorfen Kraul range from 23 to 31 elite. The quest MOBs are up to 33 elite.

Tactics

Being the first mid level instance for Horde group tactics really start to come into play. It is very important to practice good team work at this stage so higher level (and more difficult) instances play easier and you get a good reputation for team play. If good team tactics are not used there are several spots where a wipe could occur.

The MOBs in Razorfen Kraul range from 23-31 elite and are generally found in groups of 3-4, with the occasional group of 5+. As well as placed MOBs there are patrols that wander Razorfen Kraul that you need to be careful of. A fairly normal fight against 2 or 3 MOBs can quickly turn ugly if a patrol wanders by and you are unprepared. Several of the groups of MOBs have casters with them, It is important to take out the casters first, they can cause large amounts of damage.

Being a level 26-33 instance, with the MOBs being 28-32 elite you will HAVE to work together as a team, especially if you are at the low end of the level scale. Most players in the correct level range will not be able to handle an elite MOB of their level or higher on their own. The best tactic to deal with this is to designate a single player to pull MOBs and be careful to not pull anything other than what is planned. If you are the puller always plan the pull carefully. This means, watching for patrols, movement of MOBs, and party health and mana. If you do these things even a party of all 26-30 characters stands an excellent chance at most of the instance. The final boss really requires a partly of all level 30 or higher, but other than that the instance should be doable to a level 26-30 mixed group.

There are several key tactical issues to keep in mind for this specific instance.

Most MOBs are in groups of 3-5, this can quickly overwhelm you if you are not careful. One thing that can help drastically is having the mage or rogue in the group sheep or sap one of the enemy. It is also important to select a single target and have everyone bring that target down quickly, then move on to another. If everyone works independently this instance can be really tough as the MOBs are mainl your level and elite.
Party Composition

As this is a mid level instance, party composition starts to really play a factor. The bigger factor will be still be player levels, but composition can make a big difference. You need to ensure that you have at least a one player at the upper end of the level range to help out against the named MOBs.

As in any group you will want someone in the party that can heal (even an alt-healer, although without a main you will likely want two alts) and someone who can tank. Other than that though, unless you are very low on the level scale you should be ok with almost anything. Tactics and player ability with their characters come into play far more at this early stage in the game that party composition does in the late game (55+).
Quests
There are a few quests in Razorfen Kraul for each of the two factions, however being a small instance there are very few quests. There are only 3 quests for the Horde, 2 for the Alliance and 2 that both factions can complete.
Horde Faction Quests

Going, Going, Guano!
Faction: Horde Starting + Ending NPC / Location: Master Apothecary Faranell in The Apothecarium in Undercity
Level Obtained: 30
Quest Level: 33
XP Reward: 280 - 3500
Objectives: Bring 1 pile of Kraul Guano to Master Apothecary Faranell in the Undercity.

Notes: The Kraul Guano drops from the bats found in the cave area at the west end of Razorfen Kraul. It is a random drop from any of the bats. Just kill a few and you should get one.

An Unholy Alliance
Faction: Horde
Starting NPC / Location: Scroll found in Razorfen Kraul.
Ending NPC / Location: Varimathras in the Undercity.
Level Obtained: 28
Quest Level: 36

Notes: When turned in Varimathras gives you a second quest, this time to go into Razorfen Downs.

A Vengeful Fate
Faction: Horde
Starting + Ending NPC / Location: Auld Stonespire in Thunder Bluff.
Level Obtained: 29

Item Reward: Marbled Buckler (Shield) or Berylline Pads (Cloth shoulders) or Stonefist Girdle (Mail waist)
Objectives: Bring Razorflank''s Heart to Auld Stonespire in Thunder Bluff.

Notes: Chargla Razorflank is a very dangerous 33 elite MOB that is the main boss in Razorfen Kraul. She switches aggro easily and is a spell caster so it is very important to let the main tank build aggro before you sent in the rest of the players to attack her. She can be found at the red dot on our Razorfen Kraul map.

Objectives: Find and return Treshala''s Pendant to Treshala Fallowbrook in Darnassus.

Notes: Heralath Fallowbrook is found wounded in the tent for the escort quest in Razorfen Kraul. Once found a random MOB in Razorfen Kraul will drop the pendant. To turn the quest in Tralesha Fallowbrook can be found on the second floor of the building, across from weapons shop in Darnassus. The exact location is marked by the white dot on our map.

The Crone of the Kraul
Faction: Alliance

Blueleaf Tubers
Faction: Alliance and Horde

Item Reward: A small Container of Gems
Objectives: Bring 6 Blueleaf Tubers, the Snufflenose Command Stick and the Crate with Holes to Mebok Mizzyrix in Ratchet.

Notes: The snufflenoce command stick, manual, and the crate with holes is found right beside Mebok Mizzyrix. Be sure to grab them and read the manual so you know how to control the snufflenose gophers. The tubers are found in the thrench that runs through Razorfen Kraul.

Willix the imported
Faction: Alliance and Horde
Start + Ending NPC / Location: Willix the Importer in Razorfen Kraul
Level Obtained: 24
Quest Level: 30
XP Reward: 310 - 3100
Item Reward: 1 of 3 Rings ( +6 int, +6 Str or +6 agility)
Objectives: Escort Willix from where he is held captive to the exit of Razorfen Kraul.

Notes: Willix''s starting location is marked by the white dot on our map. Every so often on the escort quest a group of MOBS will appear and attack Willix. Make sure the main tank grabs aggro from the MOBs so that they are not all attacking Willix and kill him.
