TenTonHammers guide to: Gnomeregan GuideLocation Time Gnomeregan is a large instance and can take approximately 2 to 4 hours, depending on party level and skill. If just doing a boss run with the workshop key and the back door it can be done in about 45 to 90 minutes. Levels Gnomeregan is meant for characters level 26 - 33. You can continue to make loot and experience runs to about level 34, but after that the experience gains are not worth the effort. The MOBs in Gnomeregan range from 28 normal to 32 elite. The quest MOBs are up to 35 elite. Map We have put together a map that shows the layout of Gnomeregan and marks the location of all the key named MOBs and the key locations. Tactics Being the first mid level instance group tactics really start to come into play. It is very important to practice good team work at this stage so higher level (and more difficult) instances play easier and you get a good reputation for team play. If good team tactics are not used there are several spots where a wipe could occur. The MOBs in Gnomeregan range from 28-32 elite and are generally found in groups of 3-5, with the occasional group of 6+. As well as placed MOBs there are patrols that wander Gnomeregan that you need to be careful of. A fairly normal fight against 3 or 4 MOBs can quickly turn ugly if a patrol wanders by and you are unprepared. Most groups of 3-5 mobs have one high level 30-32 elite and several 28-30 non-elite mobs. When fighting these groups it is important to take out the elite quickly as they do the most damage. Being a level 26-33 instance, with the MOBs being 28-32 elite you will HAVE to work together as a team, especially if you are at the low end of the level scale. Most players in the correct level range will not be able to handle an elite MOB of their level or higher on their own. The best tactic to deal with this is to designate a single player to pull MOBs and be careful to not pull anything other than what is planned. If you are the puller always plan the pull carefully. This means, watching for patrols, movement of MOBs, and party health and mana. If you do these things even a party of all 26-30 characters stands an excellent chance at most of the instance. The final boss really requires a partly of all level 30 or higher, but other than that the instance should be doable to a level 26-30 mixed group. There are several key tactical issues to keep in mind for this specific instance. Most MOBs are in groups of 3-5, this can quickly overwhelm you if you are not careful. One thing that can help drastically is having the mage or rogue in the group sheep or sap one of the enemy. Also usually only one MOB in the group is elite, concentrate on killing them first. Gnomeregan has two special MOBs, the first is called a sentry bot. The sentry bot looks like a walking warning light. When one gets close to your party it will set off the alarm and start screaming. They are very easy to kill and usually die with just a few hits. You MUST kill them as soon as they go into alarm mode. While they are on they call all nearby mobs to your location. They also run away from your group signalling all further mobs to react (pull) to you. The situation can turn ugly very quickly if the sentry bots are not dealt with. The second special MOB in Gnomeregan is the Arcane Nullifier X-21. This MOB is a large robot that at certain times in combat can reflect all magic effects back at the caster. You can tell the times he will do this as they glow green. It seems to be about a 20 second cool down with about a 5 second activation time. When they start to glow do not cast any effects at them or use any special attacks, IE: a hunter’s stun shot will result in the hunter being stunned, etc. If you are a caster just wait out the 5 second period and then cast. If you are in the middle of a cast when he goes into this mode, simply move to cancel the cast and avoid the rebound. Near the end of the instance you will start to encounter Dark Iron Dwarves while descending a spiral ramp. This is a difficult position of the instance due to all the MOBs being elite and in large groups. Be careful as there are several sentry bots that wander the area. Also stay close to the outer wall as the MOBs below sometimes trigger to you on the ramp and swarm up. The end boss Mekgineer Thermaplugg is a difficult boss to beat, especially the first time through. The thing that will help you the most is to assign one person for bomb duty. What's bomb duty you ask? In Thermaplugg room there are several chutes above his head around the room. The chutes all have faced shaped doors on them and bases with large red buttons on them. While fighting thermaplugg he will activate these chutes and call in living bombs that scuttle towards you and detonate. Once a chute has been activate the face door will open and green energy will crackle around the base and chute. The chute will continue to release living bombs until it is shut down. One player should be assigned to run around and click the large red button on the base of any active chute, this will shut it down and stop the release of bombs. At least until Thermaplugg activates it again. Having a player do this will greatly increase you chances of beating Thermaplugg. As this is a mid level instance, party composition starts to really play a factor. The bigger factor will be still be player levels, but composition can make a big difference. You need to ensure that you have at least a one player at the upper end of the level range to help out against the named MOBs. As in any group you will want someone in the party that can heal (even an alt-healer, although without a main you will likely want two alts) and someone who can tank. Other than that though, unless you are very low on the level scale you should be ok with almost anything. Tactics and player ability with their characters come into play far more at this early stage in the game that party composition does in the late game (55+). Save Techbot's Brain Notes: Techbot is located in a small room off of the main round room before entering the instance portion of Gnomeregan. He is marked on the map with the XXX marker. Gyrodrillmatic Excavationators Notes: The robo-mechanical guts drop from various MOBS in Gnomeregan. You will mainly find that they drop from the robots however they can drop from almost any MOB. Essential Artifacts Notes: The essential artifacts can be found throughout Gnomeregan. They appear as large upright computer frames and are generally found along walls or in corners. Data Rescue Notes: To complete this quest you must find a white punch card (drops from MOBS before the instance) and then use it at the various security stations. Each security station provides the next level card, that must then be used to obtain the next. Gnogaine Notes: The irradiated mobs are located just before the instance and just inside the front entrance. To collect a sample you must use the vail on a live MOB. The Grand Betrayal Notes: Thermaplugg is a difficult boss to beat. As you are fighting him he will be calling in bombs from the chutes surrounding his area. See the tactics section of this guide for details on fighting him. Rig Wars Notes: Thermaplugg is a difficult boss to beat. As you are fighting him he will be calling in bombs from the chutes surrounding his area. See the tactics section of this guide for details on fighting him. The Sparklematic 5200! Notes: The machine cleans the grime encrusted items that MOBs in Gnomeregan drop and returns usable / sellable items. Items range drastically in quality from simple ore to gems to magic items. Grime Encrusted Ring Notes: The ring is a random drop from the Dark Iron Dwarfs in the instance. Some times it takes a few runs through to get one, as it seems like only one per run drops, so only one party member will get it. Return of the Ring A Fine Mess Notes: You can find Kernobee in a room near the clean area. You must escort him all the way back to the Clockwerk entrance. Phat Loot found in Gnomeregan Phat loot is defined as Rare or better items found in the instance. In Gnomeregan there are many rare items that are very good for the level requirement. There have been no epic items dropped in Gnomeregan though.
