Marksmanship Build
Talent points into marksmanship will improve your ranged damage, but your pet will have a harder time keeping the target''s attention. If you want to sit back and shoot at the target while it attacks your pet, you may want to consider beast mastery - this will make it less likely that the target will attack you instead of your pet.
This build takes as much as possible from the Marksmanship tree for damage and then adds sruvivabilty talens to allow it to function well as a PvP or PvE build.

Marksmanship / Beast Build
I found this very cool patch 1.7+ build on the WoW forums over on Blizzards site, and had to grab it before it disapeared. The build was created by Korrie while looking for a build that allowed very high personal DPS while still allowing farming without a ton of downtime. Some of his notes about the build are:
In BM, I took 15% pet health, 30% pet armor, faster, more effecient Revive Pet, and Improved Mend Pet. This should substantially reduce downtime by making Whitekiwi far more durable and healable, and substantially reduce downtime after the pet dies.
But it also maintains peak personal dps, with all the dps goodies from MM, including Effeciency for better mana usage. The only dps talent I didn''t take was Slaying (from SV), which adds 3% to damage against certain mob-types. .

Marksmanship with Melee build
This build was submitted by: Kluthanee Orc Hunter from Terenas , who had the following to say about the build.
I''d like to offer my hunter setup as an example of a melee based hunter with ranged ability. The setup is for PvP mostly, but I do out-damage even rogues in instances when I use melee weapons! Of course, when I use ranged weapons, I do even more damage, but sometimes you can''t get far enough away, line of sight, etc.
I alternate melee weapons based on the role I am playing. If I have no need to do any melee, I use the typical 2xbone slicing hatchets. If melee, and I have a windfury totem at my disposal, I whip out the blackhand doomsaw +crusader. I absolutely destroy things with this (thanks to windfury +weapon proc).
I also use the 2 weapons from revered in alterac valley (axe and dagger). This combo is what I use most often in pvp. If I am battling a single player, I swap out for the doomsaw, it really all dependso n the feeling I get and how my %hit rate is doing at the time.
Ranged, I use either the ancient bone bow, or that gun from willey (super fast gun, and ammo eater). aim shot crits with bow are good, about 1800+, but the speed and damage bonus from willey''s gun is better in instances since I rarely get enough time to aimshot.
For gear, I had my buddy make 3 of the 4 black dragonscale pieces, and I have collected a ton of +attack power pieces. Agility is my next favorite stat, but I like the attack power for the melee bonus. For ranged gear, like in instances, I use the agility gear like beaststalker''s pieces.
Also I swap out wing clip and counterattack for rank 1 of each skill. Each spell uses about half the mana of the
highest rank spell, the only difference being the amount of damage each does. When I spam wing clip, I usually stop as soon as the ''improved wing clip'' connects, so it doesn''t really matter that it is rank 1 since it will always immobilize at that point. Just a couple of things to keep in mind, saving mana is a good idea especially pvp.
